Research data,without the AWS headache

Your datasets belong in secure, scalable storage.

Your researchers shouldn’t need to understand S3 to use them.

Copper Data gives research teams a simple interface to browse, organize, upload, and download datasets stored in their own AWS account.

Your data stays in your AWS. Copper makes it usable.

S3 is great storage. It isn’t a great file browser.

Research teams often end up with valuable datasets stored in AWS S3 because it is durable, inexpensive, and scalable. Then someone actually needs the data.

They need to remember the bucket name. Find the right folder. Use the AWS console. Configure credentials. Install a CLI. Ask the one person on the team who knows how everything is organized.

Copper Data puts a researcher-friendly interface in front of the storage you already have. No migration. No second copy of your data. No new cloud to manage.

Your lab’s data, in one place

  • Browse

Navigate buckets, projects, folders, experiments, and datasets through a familiar file interface. No AWS console required.

  • Upload

Add new datasets directly to your lab’s S3 storage without teaching researchers AWS tooling.

  • Download

Find the data you need and download individual files or complete datasets.

  • Search

Stop relying on folder names, spreadsheets, Slack messages, and institutional memory to find old work.

  • Organize

Give your team a consistent way to structure and navigate research data as the lab grows.

  • Control access

Copper works with AWS rather than replacing it. Your organization continues to control storage and permissions through its own AWS account.

Built around storage you already own

The files remain in S3. Copper simply gives your team a better way to work with them.

How it works

  1. 01

    Connect your AWS storage

An administrator connects Copper Data to the S3 storage your lab already uses. There is no data migration and no Copper-hosted copy of your datasets.

  2. 02

    Give researchers access

Add researchers who need access to the lab’s data. AWS remains the underlying storage and security layer.

  3. 03

    Browse your research data

Researchers use Copper Data instead of navigating the AWS console or manually working with S3 commands.

  4. 04

    Upload, download, and organize

New datasets go directly into your AWS account and existing datasets remain where they are. Your lab keeps control of the data.

Made for research teams, not cloud engineers

Copper Data is for teams where AWS makes sense for storing scientific data, but AWS itself should not be part of every researcher’s workflow.

Researchers get

  • A simple interface for finding data
  • Easy uploads and downloads
  • Consistent organization
  • Less dependence on technical team members

Technical teams get

  • Data remaining inside the organization’s AWS account
  • Existing AWS storage infrastructure
  • Existing AWS access controls
  • No second data warehouse to maintain
  • No proprietary storage format locking the lab in

Your data stays yours

Copper Data is deliberately boring about data ownership. Scientific files stay inside your AWS account.

  • We don’t move them into a Copper cloud.
  • We don’t charge you based on how much scientific data you store.
  • We don’t hold your datasets hostage if you stop using Copper.

Copper is the interface. AWS remains the storage.

What Copper Data isn’t

Copper Data is not trying to replace every system in your lab. It is not a:

  • LIMS
  • ELN
  • Laboratory inventory system
  • Analysis platform
  • Cloud storage provider

It solves a smaller problem: making research data stored in S3 easy for your team to actually use.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?
In your organization’s AWS account. Copper Data provides an interface for accessing that storage. Your scientific datasets are not copied into Copper-hosted storage.
Do researchers need to know AWS?
That’s the point: generally, no. Copper Data is designed so researchers can work with S3-backed datasets without making the AWS console or CLI part of their normal workflow.
Does Copper replace AWS permissions?
No. AWS remains responsible for the underlying storage and access controls. Copper provides a simpler interface for working with that storage.
Do we have to migrate our existing data?
No. Copper Data is designed to work with data you already store in S3.
Is Copper Data a LIMS?
No. A LIMS manages laboratory workflows, samples, requests, inventory, and related operational processes. Copper Data focuses specifically on storing, finding, uploading, downloading, and organizing research datasets.
Can I buy it today?
Not yet. Copper Data is currently being prepared for release. Leave your email and we’ll let you know when the download is available.
